Festival Internacional de Piano de Oeiras 

No desenvolvimento de uma parceria que permitiu, no passado, a realização do “Festival de Música no Palácio”, a Câmara Municipal de Oeiras e a Academia de Música Flor da Murta irão promover o I Festival Internacional de Piano de Oeiras. O Festival decorrerá no mês de julho de 2018, no Palácio Marquês de Pombal, em Oeiras, no Auditório Ruy de Carvalho, em Carnaxide, e no Auditório do Centro de Apoio Social de Oeiras das Forças Armadas.

O Festival trará ao Concelho de Oeiras alguns dos mais reputados pianistas estrangeiros, como Piotr Anderszewski, Jeffrey Swan e Jan Michiels, e portugueses, incluindo António Rosado e Teresa da Palma Pereira. Os recitais decorrerão em todos os domingos de julho e serão complementados por conferências e filmes dedicados à música.

Com o Festival colocar-se-á Oeiras no roteiro internacional dos festivais de música clássica, atraindo público português e estrangeiro e promovendo o acesso à cultura da população de Oeiras, que engloba muitos jovens estudantes de música, famílias empenhadas na fruição cultural e uma população sénior sedenta de acesso aos bens culturais.

A perspetiva subjacente ao Festival será dinamizar um Verão Cultural no Concelho, abrindo as portas dos grandes auditórios a um público diversificado de Oeiras e do resto do país, como resposta ao esvaziamento da oferta cultural no nosso país, em contraposição com a multiplicação de eventos de música clássica por toda a Europa.

No âmbito do Festival serão organizadas Masterclasses Internacionais de Piano por grandes mestres, abertas a jovens estudantes portugueses e estrangeiros, que funcionarão durante uma semana, no Palácio Flor da Murta, em Paço de Arcos, e serão ministradas por vários dos pianistas intervenientes nos recitais, como uma Escola Internacional de Verão de Piano de Oeiras.

No decurso do Festival será promovido o Concurso para Jovens Executantes, aberto aos alunos das Masterclasses. O concurso envolve a audição pública dos alunos e a atribuição, por um júri, de Prémios para as Melhores Interpretações de Obras de Claude Debussy, no ano em que se assinala o 100º aniversário da sua morte.

Na perspetiva do relacionamento da Música com outras artes e saberes, em paralelo com as Masterclasses Internacionais de Piano, serão exibidos filmes, incluindo um filme sobre a vida de Claude Debussy seguido de um debate sobre a obra deste importante compositor, e realizadas preleções sobre outros temas artísticos relevantes.

Em associação ao Festival e à imagem do que aconteceu em 2017 com um êxito indiscutível, decorrerá um evento designado Músicos do Mundo, que exprime a relação entre os  músicos da chamada música erudita e os músicos de outras áreas e formações, apelando a um universalismo musical e ao respeito pela diversidade cultural.

No encerramento do Festival, o júri do Concurso atribuirá um Prémio Especial a uma personalidade que se tenha distinguido na criação, interpretação ou divulgação da música, em geral, e do repertório pianístico em particular. Trata-se de uma justa homenagem a todos os que se empenham para que o direito à cultura não seja letra morta.

A institucionalização do Festival será, assim, o motor do desenvolvimento de eventos musicais em Oeiras, acompanhados de ciclos de conferências e de outros eventos interartísticos, no âmbito do cinema, do teatro, da pintura ou da literatura, tais como o ciclo Vidas com Música, que decorre no Palácio da Flor da Murta e articula Música e Cinema.

Por todas estas razões, o Festival procura um efeito de vitalização cultural comunitária, para converter de Oeiras num Concelho Cultural de Referência e superar a exclusão cultural a que muitos cidadãos continuam a estar sujeitos, proporcionando aos oeirenses, em especial, o acesso à grande música e aos grandes intérpretes.

Proceeding with the development of the project that allowed the "Festival Música no Palácio" to be held in the past, with the support of the Oeiras City Hall, the Flor da Murta Music Academy will hold the 1st International Piano Festival of Oeiras, which will take place in July 2018, at Palace of the Marquis of Pombal, at Auditório Ruy de Carvalho (Carnaxide) and at Auditório do Centro de Apoio Social de Oeiras das Forças Armadas.

The International Piano Festival of Oeiras will bring to the Municipality some of the most renown foreign pianists such as Piotr Anderszewski, Jeffrey Swan and Jan Michiels, as well as distinguished Portuguese artists such as António Rosado and Teresa da Palma Pereira. The recitals will take place every Sunday in July and will be complemented by conferences and films devoted to music.

With this International Piano Festival, Oeiras, will definitely join the international route of classical music festivals, thus attracting Portuguese and foreign audiences and promoting access to   fine arts and culture by the population of  Oeiras, that – happily - includes many young musicians, as well as music  students, obviously attracting their  families and friends, along with a senior population thirsty  to access to cultural and artistic events.

The prospect underlying the Oeiras International Piano Festival will  certainly stimulate the possibility of a Cultural Summer in the Municipality, opening up the doors of the Marquês de Pombal Palace to a diverse audience,   thus attracting not only city residents, but also  other audiences coming  from other places   in the country, in response to the –already noticeable - emptying of the cultural offer in our country, in contrasted with the multiplication of classical music events throughout Europe during  summer time.

In the scope of such an artistic event as the one we devise, this International Piano Festival of Oeiras will offer International Master Piano Classes that will be organized by great masters, open to young Portuguese and foreign students, who will work for a week at Palácio Flor da Murta and will be taught by several of the pianists involved in the recitals, as is proper of a real International Summer School of Piano of Oeiras.

During the International Piano Festival of Oeiras, a Young Performers Competition will be held, open to all Masterclasses students. The competition involves a public hearing of the students and a jury awarding Claude Debussy's Best Performing Works Awards in the year that marks the hundredth anniversary of the death of this important composer.

In the perspective of the relationship of Music with other arts and   culture in general, in parallel with the International Piano Masterclasses, films will be shown, including a film about the life of Claude Debussy followed by a debate on the composer's work, and lectures on other artistic themes, thus promoting relevant information.

In association with the International Piano Festival of Oeiras and following what happened in 2017 with unquestionable success, an event called Musicians of the World will be held, expressing the relationship between musicians of so-called classical music and musicians of other musical cultures, calling for a universalism and respect for cultural diversity.

At the closing of the International Piano Festival of Oeiras, the jury of the Festival will award a Special Prize to the personality that had proved to be outstanding in the creation, interpretation or dissemination of music in general and of the piano repertoire in particular. It is a fair tribute to those who strive to ensure that the right to culture is not a dead letter.

The institutionalization of the International Piano Festival of Oeiras will thus be the engine of a future development of musical events in Oeiras, accompanied by cycles of conferences or other inter-artistic events, such as the Lives with Music cycle, already taking place at Palácio da Flor of Murta, thus seeking to articulate Cinema with Music.

For all these reasons, the Oeiras International Piano Festival Project seeks a community cultural empowerment effect, to convert Oeiras into a Cultural Reference Centre and overcome the cultural exclusion that many citizens continue to be subject to, thus offering access to great music and great performers.
